knoq.uk: AEO and SEO test

21 Oct 2026 by Lumanaire

SEO is showing up on Google and Bing. AEO is being named when people ask AI assistants such as ChatGPT. This test shows where knoq.uk stands on both today, and the fixes to make first.

Summary

Where knoq.uk stands today

Today knoq.uk does not show up on Google or in AI answers, and the main reason is simple: until the evening of 21 Oct the site told every search engine to stay out (the change that opened it is dated 18:22 SAST on 21 Oct), so nothing had been indexed yet when we tested.

In our test of 13 questions a UK renter would ask, Knoq was named in none. The answers named Rightmove, Zoopla, OnTheMarket, OpenRent and SpareRoom, plus alert services such as QuickRent, Rentumo, Prio and Casa, and they leaned on Trustpilot, the App Store, AlternativeTo and property news sites. A search for “Knoq” itself returns other businesses with the same name: knoq.com (a US door to door sales app) and knoq.co.uk (an HR and payroll app).

Good today

The technical base is good: the site is quick in our own lab test, secure, open to Google and to every AI crawler we tried, with clean redirects, a real 404 page and a correct sitemap.

Holding it back: content and signals

  • The FAQ answers are hidden from crawlers until someone clicks.
  • There is no structured data.
  • There is no about page.
  • The home page title does not say “rental alerts”, “London” or “Manchester”.
  • There are no pages for the areas renters search for.

Where Knoq can win

The AI answers said out loud that they could find:

  • no app that watches the big sites together,
  • no current figure for how fast London rentals go,
  • no alert service for new build to rent flats.

Knoq can be the answer to all three with pages built on its own data.

Ranked fix list

Each fix with the page, the change, the effort, the impact and who does it. The top 5 come first.

Effort S = hours, M = 1 to 3 days, L = a week or more.

Fix 1, done: Get indexed and stay verified

knoq.uk is verified in Google Search Console (21 Oct). The Search Console tag and HTML file are live on knoq.uk and in the main code, so the next deploy keeps them.

Next in this step: submit https://knoq.uk/sitemap.xml and request indexing of the home page in Search Console; add the site to Bing Webmaster Tools (import from Search Console) and submit the sitemap there.

Method

How we tested: the Dodo AEO way

Dodo AEO’s free audit works like this:

  1. A first look at the site: can AI search bots reach it, is the main text readable without JavaScript, can Google and Bing index it.
  2. Ten buyer questions in the buyer’s own words, plus control questions that the planned fixes should not touch.
  3. Each question goes to ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity with web search on. Each answer is read for: is the business named, at what position, who is named instead, and which sites are cited.
  4. The report sums it up: named in X of Y answers with a likely range, who AI names instead, and the sites AI reads. Fixes come from a fixed list of types (home page, service page, FAQ, structured data, AI bot access, text readable without JavaScript, about and contact, guide or comparison page, listings on other sites, Google Business Profile, reviews).
  5. Later rounds give a verdict: how far the test questions moved, minus how far the controls moved.

What we changed for this test

Step 3 needs paid OpenAI, Anthropic and Perplexity accounts, which we did not use. The stand in was one web search per question through our own search tool, read the same way. That tool searches from the US, so UK results can differ a little.

How we checked the site

Site checks used direct requests and a headless browser, paced to one request a second, and we read the site’s code. Read only: nothing on knoq.uk, its code, hosting, Search Console or Meta was changed. No sign-ins, no forms, no messages. Load on the site: 128 requests in all (127 to knoq.uk, 1 to the old knoq.lumanaire.co.za address), never more than one a second.

AI search bots can reach the sitePassrobots.txt allows everything except the private paths. The home page answered 200 with the same 919 word page to Googlebot, Bingbot, GPTBot, OAI-SearchBot, ChatGPT-User, ClaudeBot, Claude-SearchBot, PerplexityBot and CCBot (21:13:57 to 21:14:07). This tests by name only; a firewall rule that checks bot IP addresses cannot be tested from outside.
Main text readable without JavaScriptPartlyHome: the server HTML holds 919 words, the H1 and every section, but not one of the 10 FAQ answers (only the questions). /signup: 19 words and no H1 without JavaScript; the form and its heading appear only after the scripts run.
Google and Bing can index the pagesYes, since the evening of 21 OctNo noindex tag or header on the 7 public pages, sitemap live with 7 addresses, robots.txt names the sitemap. Until the change dated 18:22 SAST on 21 Oct, robots.txt shut out every crawler but Meta’s and every page carried noindex.

Hosting and speed of replyknoq.uk is on Vercel (A 76.76.21.21, www a CNAME to Vercel; DNS at Cloudflare, not proxied). Pages come from Vercel’s cache in 0.05 to 0.6 s (measured from Cape Town). HTTPS with HSTS.Good
robots.txthttps://knoq.uk/robots.txt (21:12:07): Meta’s three crawlers allowed; all others “Allow: /” with Disallow for /admin, /dashboard, /settings, /login, /verify, /unsubscribe, /auth, /api, /sb; names the sitemap.Good
Sitemap coveragehttps://knoq.uk/sitemap.xml (21:12:08): 7 addresses (/, /signup, /terms, /privacy, /cookies, /data, /monitor), application/xml, lastmod set. It holds every public page that exists. There are no area pages to list; the 16 neighbourhood names on the home page are plain text.Complete for today’s site; the gap is missing pages, not the sitemap
Canonical tagsEvery public page names itself in full (for example https://knoq.uk/signup); the home page uses https://knoq.uk.Good
Titles and descriptionsSee the titles table below. The home title has no “UK”, “rental alerts”, “London” or “Manchester”. The home description is 197 characters and /data’s 188 (Google shows about 155).Fix the home page
HeadingsHome: one H1 “Find your next home. First.”, then clear H2 and H3 sections, FAQ questions as H3. /signup: no heading at all in the server HTML (H1 “Where do you want to live?” appears only after JavaScript). Legal pages: one H1 and numbered H2s.Good on home and legal pages; /signup needs a server H1
FAQ answersThe 10 answers sit only inside the page’s script data. After the page runs they are still not in the page until someone opens each question (the accordion removes closed answers). Google and AI crawlers see the questions only.Top fix
Internal linksHome links to its own sections, /signup, /monitor, /data, /privacy, /terms, /cookies. No about page, no area or guide pages to link to.Thin by design today
Structured dataNo JSON-LD and no microdata on any of the 7 pages, before or after JavaScript.Missing: add Organization, WebSite, WebApplication and FAQPage now; BreadcrumbList only once area pages exist. WebSite SearchAction is not true today (there is no public search results address), so leave it out.
Open Graph and X cardsPresent on all pages: og:image https://knoq.uk/og.jpg?v=1 (200, image/jpeg, 99,576 bytes, declared as 1200 by 630), summary_large_image. Every page shares the home page’s og:title and og:description.Good; per page card text is a nice to have
Verification tagsgoogle-site-verification and facebook-domain-verification are in the live home HTML. knoq.uk is verified in Google Search Console (21 Oct), and the Google tag and file are in the main code as well as live, so a later deploy keeps them.Done 21 Oct

Private pages/login: 200 with X-Robots-Tag and meta noindex; /dashboard: 307 to /login.Good
SpeedGoogle’s PageSpeed Insights API refused keyless requests on the night (429, the shared daily quota, at 21:14 and again at 21:28). Our own lab estimate instead (recorded files replayed offline on our own machine with a slow 4G model, 4x CPU slowdown on the phone; not Google’s score): phone home page first paint about 1.0 s, main image about 1.1 s, fully loaded about 3.2 s, about 480 KB sent, of it about 330 KB of JavaScript; phone /signup main text about 2.5 s with about 680 KB of JavaScript, more than half of it the map, and the map then pulls about 0.8 MB more of tiles and map fonts (not in these numbers). Desktop: both pages about 0.5 s. Layout shift near zero. Our test machine is faster than Google’s test phone, so script delays are likely understated.Fine for the home page; /signup is heavy on phones
ImagesHome has one image, the hero still, with empty alt text, which is right for a background picture; it has width, height and high fetch priority. The app video has a text label.Good
Accessibility basicslang en-GB, skip link, one main area, labelled form fields. Automated check (axe 4.13): text under “Be first.” at 4.15 to 1 contrast and the “Sign in” link on /signup at 4.18 to 1 (both need 4.5 to 1); the “From listed to in front of you” figure nests its dt and dd tags wrongly; the map on /signup holds focusable parts inside a focusable box.Minor fixes
AnalyticsThe cookie banner says no analytics cookies are used, so Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools will be the only window on search traffic.Note

What Knoq’s pages need

What a page needs to rank for UK rental searches by city and area

  • Searches like “flats to rent in Hackney” belong to the portals, which have every advert. Knoq should not try to copy adverts (portal terms, and Knoq’s own crawl policy). Knoq wins with what the portals do not offer: speed and its own numbers.
  • One page per area renters search: the 33 London areas, the 10 Greater Manchester districts, and first the 16 neighbourhoods the home page already names:
    • Dalston
    • Clapham
    • Peckham
    • Walthamstow
    • Brixton
    • Islington
    • Canary Wharf
    • Stratford
    • Ancoats
    • Didsbury
    • Chorlton
    • Salford Quays
    • Northern Quarter
    • Stockport
    • Altrincham
    • Sale
  • Each area page: the area and “rentals” in the title and H1; a two or three sentence answer at the top; this week’s count of new homes, median rents by bedrooms, how fast homes go, the share first seen away from Rightmove; tips for that area; a short local FAQ; links to nearby areas; a “Set a Hackney alert” button; the date it was last updated. Pages without enough data stay out of the index so they are not thin. Knoq’s original build brief already plans “programmatic SEO area pages built from our own listing data” for Phase 3.
  • Guides for renter questions 1, 3, 5, 9 and 12, each opening with a short plain answer, then facts and a date.

E-E-A-T (experience, expertise, authority, trust)

Strong today

Company name, number, address, ICO registration and phone in every footer; full privacy, terms and cookie pages; /monitor explains openly how Knoq reads adverts and obeys robots.txt; /data credits Ordnance Survey, Royal Mail and ONS. The Companies House record matches: KNOQ LTD., 17341686, active, 128 City Road, London EC1V 2NX, web portals, formerly MOZPAY LTD until 28 Sep 2026.

Missing

An about page, reviews, press mentions, social profiles, and dates and methods on any figures.

About page and who runs Knoq UK

Today the only answer is the legal footer. An about page should say what Knoq UK is, the company behind it, what Knoq already runs in South Africa (with how long, if Knoq confirms it), how it finds homes, how to reach it, and that it is not knoq.com or knoq.co.uk. Name the team by role and company, not personal names, in the page body.

FAQs

Good questions, but the answers must be in the page. Add the renter questions above that Knoq can answer truthfully (one app for several sites, homes not on Rightmove, email alerts, build to rent, speed).

llms.txt

Not there (404). It is cheap to add, but no major assistant is known to rely on it yet, so it is low impact.

Off-site

Where Knoq needs a presence

Google Business Profile and Bing Places

None found. Knoq is an online service and 128 City Road is a registered office service address, which Google does not accept for a profile unless it is staffed. Leave this unless Knoq gets a staffed office.

Mentions and links

We found none for Knoq UK. A search limited to knoq.uk returned no pages; the same for knoq.co.za. Search for “Knoq” returns knoq.com (a US sales app listed on G2 and CB Insights), knoq.co.uk (Knoq HRMS, an HR and payroll app, checked 21:31), KNQ and a SoundCloud artist.

Social profiles

None found for Knoq UK, and knoq.uk links to none.

Where the AI answers looked instead

Trustpilot, the App Store, AlternativeTo, Product Hunt, the Chrome Web Store, property trade news (The Negotiator, PropertyIndustryEye, Landlord Today), “best rental sites” lists and university housing pages. These are where Knoq needs a presence.

Next checks

How we will know it worked

Weekly, from about 28 Oct

Search Console and Bing Webmaster Tools: pages indexed and the first search queries.

4 Nov and 18 Nov

Re-run the same 15 questions (13 tests, 2 controls). The verdict is the test move minus the control move, as Dodo does it.

Once agreed

Run the questions through the Dodo engine itself (ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity with web search, on paid accounts) for a true first report.

Limits

Limits of this test

  • No AI engine was asked directly (no paid accounts); one US based web search per question stood in. UK Google results and live ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity answers can differ.
  • PageSpeed Insights refused keyless use on the night, so the speed figures are our own lab estimate, not Google’s.
  • Not checked, by design: Vercel firewall settings, Search Console data, Google Maps listings, Instagram and Facebook pages.
For the developers: markup sampleCheck every value with Knoq first.
